Glen Dawson

Glen is founder of Surface Knowledge Systems, LLC of St. Paul, MN, a consultancy specializing in surface treatment technologies. Glen helped to develop and facilitate the introduction of unique surface chemistry used by Applied Products & Surfaces, Inc. for enhancing the surface affinity of adhesives, paints, and coatings to difficult-to-bond surfaces such as plastics, rubbers, and textiles.

Glen also worked as a Senior Chemist at H.B. Fuller in St. Paul for 27 years.  Highlights of his career include:

  • Formulated Hot Melt Adhesives for the footwear industry
  • Worked with application equipment manufacturers to design and develop equipment for new adhesives.
  • Introduced Water Based, Hot Melt and Hot Melt Moisture Cure Adhesives into footwear production in Asia.
  • Spent one year, 1999, in Guangzhou, China, working in the footwear industry
  • Granted U.S. patent for Hot Melt Adhesive used in the footwear industry
  • Formulated Hot Melt Adhesives and PSA’s for general industrial uses such as appliance, filter, assembly and other structural applications.
  • Worked with application equipment manufacturers to implement adhesives into manufacturing operations.
  • Formulated Hot Melt Adhesives for industrial and craft glue sticks.
  • Co-inventor for several Hot Melt Adhesive patents.
  • Analytical Technician with specialty in Thermal Analysis.
  • Responsible for analysis and identification of various physical and chemical properties of hot melt, pressure sensitive, reactive, and water based adhesive systems.
